World's last typewriter factory 'shuts down' in Mumbai

Godrej and Boyce - the last company left in the world that was still manufacturing typewriters - has closed its production plant in Mumbai, India.

The company is now left with its last 200 machines - the majority of which are Arabic language models.
Although typewriters became obsolete years ago in the west, they were still common in India - until recently.

But with consumers switching to computers the demand for the machines started falling drastically in the last ten years.

Sri Lanka is all set to get a new cricket captain next week, days after Kumar Sangakkara stepped down following the team's runners-up finish at the World Cup.

"The selectors need to discuss the issue with the interim committee members of Sri Lanka Cricket. I made error of judgement in World Cup semifinal: Afridi

KARACHI: Impressed with Mahendra Singh Dhoni' captaincy in the World Cup final, Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi said he too should have promoted himself in the order in the semifinal against India.

In the final against Sri Lanka, Dhoni came up the order and batted at No.5 which proved to be a masterstroke. Dhoni shouldered the responsibility, hitting a match-winning unbeaten 91.

Delhi Govt to launch Free Health Scheme in April

New Delhi: The city government will launch its ambitious free health scheme next month under which 27 lakh school going children will be offered free medical care, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said today.

Dikshit, while presenting the annual budget, had announced the scheme for which an initial corpus of Rs 100 crore has been set aside.

China Accuses Google & its affiliates of Tax fraud

Mar 31 (PTI) Beijing, American search engine Google, which recently accused the Chinese government of blocking its services, has been charged with tax evasion along with three of its affiliate companies.

Three Google-affiliated companies have been found using fake invoices and accounting and business tax irregularities were also discovered that involved more than 40 million yuan (USD 6.06 million), the state-run Economic Daily reported today, citing sources in China’s tax authority.

A medical report has found that placing the devices next to the skin for long periods can lead to "toasted skin syndrome", an unusual-looking mottled skin condition caused by long-term heat exposure.

History of the Macbook

World's biggest source of spam e-mails shut down

London : The world's most prolific source of spam e-mails -- an international network of virus-infected computers -- has been shut down in a series of coordinated raids by Microsoft and US federal authorities.

The Rustock botnet had for years generated billions of e-mails per day, promoting unlicensed online pharmacies and cut-price anti-impotence pills. A botnet is a collection of software agents that run autonomously and automatically.

A city boy has become the youngest student to equal the world record of obtaining full 1,000 marks in an online computer exam conducted by US-based multinational Microsoft Corp.

Akshit Jayesh Dhruv, a Class V student, appeared in the exam on March 16 and obtained full marks, said Chirag Kothari, Centre Head of Inside Tomorrow Computer Academy, where the 11-year-old studied.

Nearly 17,000 candidates, from as many as 119 countries and studying from Standard III to post graduates, appeared in the exam in which Akshit was ranked first, Kothari said.
